DURATEK PRECAST HOMES, LLCŽ, a subsidiary of DURATEK PRECAST TECHNOLOGIESŽ, is proud to have recently constructed the first "Fortified...for Safer LivingŽ" home in Marion County, Florida. This 3 bedroom / 2 bath precast concrete home was built within Belleview's Cobblestone gated community. Traditional block wall construction can take weeks, while Duratek wall installation can be completed in one to two days, depending on site conditions. In addition to substantial savings in both time and labor, our precast technology is produced with a high degree of precision and quality control, resulting in a strong and energy efficient (with a rating of R-16) home exterior.

The precast walls are placed on the foundation and the hurricane "safe room" is constructed. Standard block construction walls only provide about 1,800 psi of protection, while Duratek's precast walls are engineered at 9,000 psi and constructed to withstand winds of 160+ mph.

The refined edges of the precast construction allow for precise door and window installation. This home's impact-resistant doors and windows meet the stringent Miami/Dade hurricane and storm code ratings. Precast construction also provides added protection against fire.

Heavy duty trusses with Simpson hurricane strapping combined with storm resistant "Fortified" classification roof shingles create a truly disaster-resistant home!

Interior framing, roof and furring are all sub-contractor friendly and typical of current home construction methods in Florida.

The columns of the home are also custom and precast manufactured. A combination of materials can be used to finish the exterior prior to painting. Typical heavy stucco coverage is not necessary as precast walls are already so dense that they act as a natural moisture barrier. In this case, a "knock-down lace" is applied as a light finish spray.

Full height eave panels ensure the structural stability while the impact-resistant windows double the protection to ensure that nothing will penetrate the home's shell.

IBHS works to reduce the social and economic effects of natural disasters and other property losses by conducting research and advocating improved construction, maintenance and preparation standards and practices.
